Systems And Makers

Chapter 6 - The Mascot Krispy Kirby

I have a check online to see if there is a game like Flappy Bird, and after a few minutes of surfing online and getting swarmed with a lot of p.o.r.n advertis.e.m.e.nt simply due to my recent search history, I decide to stop doing that and put a new feature into the Game Creation System.

This should obviously be a feature available, allowing the user to crosscheck with the System about all sort of things. Game statistics for example. What is trending currently is another. What kind of games are going to be released soon. How well those games and theirs will fare in the market place.

Actually, the last one should not be possible since it would cause the user to second guess every little thing that they do. Not only that, knowing exactly how profitable a game will be is considered cheating, and I do hate cheater.

The information the System gives should be things that the user would have figured out eventually. It should not give information that the users have no way of obtaining it in the first place. Intuitions and logical reasonings based on past experiences are not counted.

For example, I am sure Flappy Bird will be a huge success in this world simply due to what I have known and experienced for myself. That cannot be considered cheating, and while I should wipe my memory and test the Game Creation System from a blank slate, I will not be doing that.

The System is not fully functional. Having a nonfunctioning system while unable to remember anything about myself would be the most stupid thing ever. I would also make myself vulnerable to the others, and they are just looking for a chance to kill me.

Furthermore, I need to continuously program the System in the first place, making it a functioning and viable for others. It is not like I am designing the System for myself. Well. That is contradictory since I am using it myself right now.

I also realize the System has no incentive. Aside from the user wanting to be the best game developer ever, there is no incentive for the user to reach higher level and rank since there is no rewards or any sort of things for doing so.

That is a huge problem.

I take a moment to think what kind of incentives that appeal to the majority of people. Money is really an obvious one. Fames and prestige are another. I think those three should be good enough for now, as money drives the world and the other two drives the ego.

Become rich and famous should be the primary goal for any game developer. Sure. Making game could be their undying passion, but without any money or fame, they would be a nobody. That is worst than anything, especially when they have a System.

It takes a moment to add information about wealth and fame, and since I am really a super poor game developer, my wealth is sitting at zero. Not exactly zero, as I do have some money in my pocket. I think it is for dinner, which I do not need.

About that. Do I have to eat and sleep as well to make sure I am behaving like a mortal? I am not, and I have not slept or eaten anything for like forever. I do not even remember what foods taste like, really.

Not really important, but it is something for me to think about.

As for my fame. It is zero. I have no fame and no prestige. I am a nobody in this world, and I am trying to become a somebody. That is the goal, is it not?

Oh. I just figure out a solution to my non-existent appetite and fatigue. I could put in stamina potions as well as health potions as a reward for reaching certain milestone. For example, having a million or so bucks. Reaching certain amount of fame. Gaining certain amounts of loyal followers. A game having reached amounts of player.

There is quite a lot, and even if I sit here and think about all of it, I will probably miss plenty more. It is probably better to work on it when it comes up. For now, wealth and fame milestone.

Fame is easy, as higher fame enables special features and losing fame meant the user will probably no longer have access to those features. It will force the user to become famous, just so they can become even more famous. It is a vicious cycle, and it is a good cycle.

Wealth on the other hand is more complicated. For example, is it acc.u.mulated wealth or just the cash they have accessed to? Acc.u.mulated wealth is obviously better as it is more accurate, but there are a lot of way to cheat this, and once more, I hate cheater.

I decide to go with how much money I have in my possession at the moment, not necessary right there in my pocket. As for the rewards, I can purchase them by literally using cash.

The rewards should be random at the moment, just to add in the suspense. Making the user squirms as well since the System might not give them what they want.

And finally, as for the items, I decide to dump a lot of skill books, knowledges, potions, and a bunch of other consumables. None of them are permanent except for skill books and knowledges. It is a safety net against the user farming for godly abilities without actually doing any of the work.

My wealth did increase to a few thousands since I have some money in my bank. Eh? I should not have any money in my bank, so someone must have deposited into there. I check my bank account to read the accompanying message.

"Hey little brother. I hope this will help your dream a little bit. Do not worry. Mum and dad will come around to it, so keep fighting. Become the best you can be. Love you!"

That is from my older sister, and I cannot help but smile. She is struggling financially herself. Even so, she even sent me some money, just so I can buy something to eat.

Since it is more than a couple of thousands of dollars, I am sure my parents put some into it as well. It is hard for them to stay mad at their only son. This is because so many people in this world have failed to get anywhere in the game industry.

I am not some people, and I certainly will make something out of myself without needing to resort to my power or ability. Just the Game Creation System will do.

In any case, I modify the Game Creation System a bit more. Not in a cheating kind of way. Even if only I know that I had cheated, it is still one person.

"I know that you have cheated too, William."

Desora speaks up, indicating that he has returned from wherever that he had gone too. Great. I should have not wasted that precious time.

"You are going to recreate Flappy Bird? I love that game. Really addicting, so addicting that I destroyed several realities just because I was pissed off. Oh. You are not going to recreate the game exactly, are you? That would be plagiarism, and while no one in this world know about Flappy Bird, you do."

Desora points out before continuing.

"Also, it is not interesting to me or you as we have played the game before. Make something new and interesting. A brand-new game that I have never seen before, but that is kind of impossible since I am aware of everything that exists and will exists. You will not be able to surprise me with anything. Where was I? Oh, make Flappy Bird but better while keeping the same core concept. I might be interested in playing that."

Desora goes on and on for about half an hour more. Pointless shit really since I have already decided to recreate Flappy Bird for this world, but he does have a point about plagiarism, but it is not like the original creator can do anything about it.

This is another world. Another platform after all.

And while I am thinking of where to begin, my phone rings. My girlfriend is calling, and since she didn't pick up when I had called her, I am not picking it up.

It eventually goes to voicemail, which automatically plays for me.

"I know that you are there, William, so pick up the phone. If you don't, our relationship is over!"

My girlfriend tells me, making me quirk my eyes. There is no way that she would know what I am doing at the moment, so her threats do not make sense. Of course, since I have paid her back for not picking it up when I had called, I decide to let bygone be bygone.

I call her and after the second ring, she picks up.

"Why did you stop calling me?"

She questions. She has been waiting for me to call her after the first time, which was like several hours ago. Actually, a whole day.

"I thought that you were busy, so I did not want to bother you. Same reason why I did not pick up the phone, not because I know that you did not pick up my phone because you are thinking about breaking up with me. I hope not because I have already called you back."

I tell her, and there is a moment of silence. She is speechless. I can see her as if she was actually sitting in front of me. I can use my cosmic powers and abilities for this, as it has nothing to do with my dream of becoming a game developer.

"I am still going to break up with you!"

My girlfriend tells me. Angrily too.

"Okay. We can still be friends, right? Actually, I think we have always been friends instead of a couple, so let be acquaintances."

I response. Once more she is speechless, wondering to herself what the hell just happened to me? Did I hit my head or something? Well. I did die.

"No."

She hangs up afterwards before sitting there waiting for me to call her. I am not going to do that since I do have a lot of things on my mind. Besides, if she really wanted to break up with me, then she would have done so a long time ago.

"If you do not call her, you two will become acquaintances for real."

Desora points out before materializing as a shadow sphere on the front of the desk. The sphere grows and shrinks in size depends on what Desora had eaten, is eating and how long ago was all of that. That reminds me of a video game mascot.

Aside from the constant trailing of shadows of course. Also, pitch blackness.

"You do not understand women, Desora. They say a lot of things, but in the end, it is very hard to give up whatever they already have."

I tell Desora. No matter how much of a loser I am in her eyes, having me around and talking to her are better than nothing. Humans are creature of comfort, and since we have been girlfriend and boyfriend for a long time, she has grown into the role before she realizes it.

As such, my girlfriend will not give up our relationship without hesitation, especially when I am not an asshole or anything of the sort. I have gifted her plenty of things in the past. Things that I shouldn't be able to afford in the first place.

"Anyway, I think I need to rename my company. How about Desora Interactive? You can be the mascot of the company. In fact, I will take you on your suggestion. I will not recreate the exact same game as that is limiting my creativity. How about Krispy Kirby instead?"
