Chapter 12: Good person card

There was torrential rain on Friday night but by Saturday, the sky had cleared completely. Small puddles were left on the uneven ground, sole proof of last night’s rainstorm.
The heroine Xia Xi was very afraid of thunder and Xia Yuan had stayed with her in the living room most of the night. When Xia Yao went out early in the morning, the two of them hadn’t gotten up yet but Ji Huai was already at the dining table. Xia Yao had almost forgotten there was another person at home.

During his stay, she and Ji Huai had gotten along really well and had gone to eat fried chicken together. Xia Yao now believed that even when he would fall madly in love with the heroine in the future, he would not forget their friendship.
“Are you going to the nursing home?” The teenager asked before taking a sip of milk.
Xia Yao swallowed two bites of bread and vaguely answered: “Hm.”
Since Ji Huai had learned about her past experience, not only he found her very cool but also very strong and he wanted to get to know her more. Unfortunately, Xia Yao only had learning in her heart.

“If you encounter anything you don’t understand in your studies, you can ask me.” He poked the egg yolk on his plate and added, “Let’s go to the library tomorrow. It’s not enough to read textbooks all day long, you have to read something else.”
Xia Yao drank her milk and felt that what he was saying made sense. She knew from the novel that Ji Huai’s grades were the best in school and honor students usually had their own learning methods. In addition, he had already offered her his help many times with her homework… Xia Yao nodded and her mouth curved in a curious smile: “Sure, let’s go to the library tomorrow.”
Ji Huai looked up from his food at this moment and met the girl’s bright eyes and beautiful smile. A drop of milk was left at the corner of her mouth and he pulled out a tissue before handing it to her.

The nursing home was far away, deep in the suburbs, and Xia Yao decided to take a taxi. Because she had awakened her self-awareness and her intelligence had been restored, her life had been pretty good recently and her studies had made great progress. The joy in her heart was written on her face and her grandmother asked her about all the good things that had happened recently.
Xia Yao couldn’t say the truth but answered: “The mid-term exam is around the corner and I have improved a lot. I should have a good ranking this time.”
The grandmother didn’t know about Xia Yao’s academic performance but in her eyes, she believed it should be very good.

The whole day passed in a flash. The grandmother wanted to keep her for dinner but it wasn’t safe for a girl to go back alone at night and she could only watch her leave.
“Grandma, I will go back first but I will come to see you next weekend.” Xia Yao was carrying a bag of fruits grown by the old lady. The nursing home was surrounded by beautiful mountains, clear water, fresh air, and orchards on the hills. During this season, the fruits were very fragrant.
“Xiao Yao, bring some money back.” The grandmother stuffed a stack of crumpled banknotes into Xia Yao’s hands. “This was given by the fruit farmers. Eat more, look at you again, you’re so thin! How can you carry things?”
Xia Yao looked down at the banknotes and immediately gave them back.
“Grandma, I don’t need any money. You don’t need to go help at the orchard in the future. You should rest.”
The old lady sighed: “Oh, grandma knows the Xia family is rich. But even if you are their daughter, you were lost for so many years and I heard they have an adopted daughter. After so many years apart, the Xia family must have more affection for her. So you take the money first, it will always be useful.”
The old lady was already seventy years old but still had a pair of clear and sharp eyes. Xia Yao knew she was going to leave the Xia family one day and she would really need money to support herself and her grandmother but….
“Grandma, save the money for me first, okay? I really don’t need it right now.” She stuffed back the bills directly into the pocket of the old lady’s clothes and ran away with the bag of fruits.
“Xiao Yao!” The grandmother looked at the girl running so fast and watched her disappear from sight.

Xia Yao quickly found a car on her app and left the suburbs. She was only halfway home when it started to rain.
The drizzle on the way became bigger and bigger and as soon as she reached the city, the whole area was under a curtain of water.
“Mister, can you take me to the door of the community?”
The Xia family’s mansion was in a closed community; only registered vehicles could enter and taxis were not allowed.
Xia Yao tightened her shoelaces, opened the door abruptly, and rushed into the rain, leaping over the steps before hiding in a sheltered place. She had forgotten to bring her umbrella.
She touched the drops of water on her face, trying to decide whether she should rush home and rely on her speed or wait here for a bit. Perhaps the rain would stop after a while.

“Don’t you have an umbrella?” A familiar voice sounded from behind her. Ji Huai had not expected his sense of existence to be so low; he had watched Xia Yao get out of the car and run towards him but she had never looked at him.
“I forgot.”
Xia Yao turned around and finally noticed the boy in white who was standing against the wall. She must not have seen him because of his white shirt against the white wall!
Xia Yao touched her neck, feeling a little embarrassed for ignoring him.
“Let’s go home together?” Ji Huai raised the black umbrella in his hand. The handle was very long and it looked big enough for two people.
As if he was afraid she would misunderstand something, he quickly added: “I just came back from the library and happened to run into you.”
“Thank you!” Xia Yao agreed without thinking too much of his kindness.
“Is the bag heavy? I will help you carry it.” The boy was very enthusiastic.
Xia Yao wanted to refuse but she saw him get closer to her step by step and reach out for the bag. Ji Huai took the fruits, not expecting it to be so heavy. The girl had been carrying such a heavy bag silently, her face soaked by the rain, and he felt a little distressed.

The two walked side by side as the rain fell on the umbrella. Even if it was large, it couldn’t protect them from all the drops and Xia Yao leaned in the middle. At such close distance, she could smell the refreshing and clean fragrance of the teenager.
“What brand of washing powder do you use? It smells good.” Xia Yao asked casually.
“Ah?” Ji Huai was surprised by the praise, “Your laundry detergent.”
Xia Yao: …
“By the way, is the homework of Class A different from Class F? Can you lend me some tomorrow?”
“Yes, let’s go to the library tomorrow, I will wake you up in the morning.”
“…” The conversation smoothly shifted to studying.

The boy’s footsteps were light and he led Xia Yao around the puddles so her shoes wouldn’t get too wet along the way. When he reached the door of the house and put away the umbrella, Xia Yao noticed the left side of his shirt was stuck to his body and his pants were just as wet. She couldn’t help but feel a little ashamed and guilty when she looked at her own dry appearance; in order to keep her from getting soaked, Ji Huai had probably held the umbrella towards her instead of protecting himself.
What a nice person. She shouldn’t call him licking dog number two in her heart every day anymore.

She opened the door of the villa and both Xia Xi and Xia Yuan seemed to be at home. When she turned on the lights, the lobby brightened and the sound of the rain lessened once inside.
“Sit down first, I will get you a dry towel.” Because of her guilt, she felt a little better helping him and trotted to find a towel.
Ji Huai sat on the couch and obediently watched her. Her bangs were a little messy and a few drops of water were falling down her face, which made her look rather cool. The scene of her wiping his hair suddenly appeared in his mind, just as if he were family, and his heart warmed at the thought. But the next second, Xia Yao accurately threw the towel in his arms and the image shattered.

“Dry first, don’t catch a cold.” Because of her conscience, Xia Yao’s voice had softened a bit.
“Um.” Ji Huai nodded in response and began to pat his hair with the towel.
“You are too soaked, you should just go change your clothes.” Xia Yao couldn’t help frowning when she realized it wasn’t helping. It was stupid, it would go faster to just change.
The boy who was still wiping his hair stopped and said: “Then I will go back to my room first. I will see you later.”
“Let me cook a bowl of ginger soup for you and cut some fruits. Do you eat apples?” Xia Yao was actively trying to make him feel better.
“I do.” Ji Huai answered and the warm feeling in his heart spread a little more, even though he actually didn’t like apples very much.

Williston Noble High School, as its name suggested, was not a school for commoners but for children of wealthy families, and was very famous for its strict and serious education. Although the school also had poor classes like Class F, most students were constantly racing against time to learn.
Most of the students there wanted to inherit the family’s property and if they didn’t study well, they would often end up abandoned. Except for Class F, which the teachers had given up on, practice test papers of the other classes were piled up like a mountain and there were real exams every now and then; the pressure of studying was always very high.
For the Class F students, there were only two exams each semester, one mid-term and the finals and now, the midterm exam was right around the corner.

[Please, show up at the private room of City T’s library before 9:22 and be sure to complete the plot of “The sweetheart of the three big bosses”. The host must throw milk tea at the heroine.]
Xia Yao had woken at 6 am to study and was stunned when she heard the system.
[There is a scene today?]
[Host, you have been too busy studying lately and have ignored me too many times. But this time, you really need to go. Once the plot fails, your self-awareness will immediately be obliterated and your original character’s setting will be restored.]
Xia Yao continued to write the questions without changing the expression on her face, recalling today’s plot. Wasn’t it when her character had watched Ji Huai’s intimate interaction with the heroine and had become angry and poured milk tea on Xia Xi? Ah, her vicious female character settings were indeed worthy; every time she had to make a small gesture, she had to do it in front of everyone just to end up being crushed.
