Chapter 9 – Family Ecosystem (1)

Knowing that Mystery couldn’t respond to her, Lucia was extremely distressed. She felt like a straight A student with diploma from a prestigious university who mistakenly entered a black company.

[Why are you so useless.] Lucia said bitterly. [You’re forcing me to be unfaithful.]

[How about praying to Kulatha?] Mystery helped her give ideas. [Don’t you like money very much?]

[But I thought about it. You see that Kulatha’s temple is so extravagant. It must’ve come from harvesting his own believers. As a low-level member of this multi-level marketing organization, won’t I get drained by a wave of membership fees?]

[I don’t really understand.] Mystery pondered for a moment. [Then how about Tanuman? This is the god who controls the powers in the human world. How about believing in him?]

[Get real. Do you think I look like an official?] Lucia was very self-aware. [Stop persecuting the people! They’re already very miserable!]

[Then what about Noti? They symbolize knowledge and the moon, and is the patron saint of all things that are known.]

Lucia subconsciously rejected it without any delay. [It’s already miserable enough to go to school. Would I have to continue studying after graduation? Do I look so diligent?]

Several gods were mentioned, but they were all rejected by Lucia.

After thinking about it, Lucia who didn’t know what to do decided she might as well throw it all away. [Well, it doesn’t matter, I don’t want to go to the seminary anyway. It’s too complicated! I’ll just go to a regular school and be a scientist after graduation!]

[You’re not going to go?] Mystery sounded very disappointed. [Lucia, if you don’t go to the seminary, you won’t be able to learn the god descension art. Don’t you want to see me?]

[I don’t want to.] Lucia refused without thinking.

Mystery went silent for a moment, then said something. [One gold coin?]

[Mystery, I don’t think we need to meet each other for our relationship. Isn’t chatting a lot like this also good?] Lucia earnestly persuaded.

[Two gold coins.]

[Hmph, just two gold coins, and you want me to learn those weird things? I tell you, it’s impossible!] Lucia refused sternly.

[Five gold coins.]

[…no, I think it’s okay to learn to read and mathematics, but I don’t think I can go to the seminary at all?] Lucia tried to reason with Mystery.

[Ten gold coins.] Mystery suddenly raised the salary ceiling.

[…Boss, you are right, I still have to go to the seminary!] Lucia followed her inner thoughts.

Although there would still be many difficulties in the future, Lucia chose to charge towards those difficulties with firm belief.

Since Mystery, the bootleg god, was not here, Lucia could choose to follow any god.

She racked her brains to come up with some empty prayer, secretly feeling envious towards those believers who could smoothly spew out prayers just by opening their mouths.

After praying for a while, Lucia felt that it was long enough, and it should be enough to barely pass. After all, there was nothing flattering in her prayers.

Unexpectedly, when she opened her eyes, there were beautiful lights and shadows in front of her. She looked at the river of light I shock and confusion, then turned her head to look behind her.

Everyone was kneeling down.

Lucia pondered whether she should also kneel. After all, she wouldn’t fit in well with the others if she didn’t. But before she could think of anything else, the light at the top died down.

The colors below also disappeared gradually, and the huge hall returned to tranquility.

Everyone stood up and turned their gaze towards Lucia who was still standing at the front.

The girl looked like she never had so many people looking at her at the same time. She gave a shy and awkward smile, then walked back down.

A few other children took part in the test afterward, but they were all only selected by one god. Not to mention making waves in the examiners’ hearts, even the children themselves were still feeling out of sorts.

All the gods answered one person’s prayer. After this feat that had never been heard of before, the rest of the annual assessment had become insignificant.

When they left, Razelt and Louisa personally sent Lucia back to Anna and Ram who were waiting outside.

“Lord Priest,” Ram rubbed his hands awkwardly. “Our Lucia, is she…?”

Looking at the two people who seemed nervous in front of her, Louisa smiled gently, “Lucia is a very good child, and I am very honored to be able to teach her in the seminary.”

“Thank you!” Ram breathed a sigh of relief almost immediately, “Thank you so much!”

“You’re welcome.” Luisa couldn’t help but sigh, “You really have an excellent child.”

Under Anna and Ram’s puzzled eyes, Louisa explained, “All the gods responded to this child.”

Ram and Anna showed surprised expressions. They could never have imagined that such a legendary thing would happen to their daughter.

Anna couldn’t help but glance at Lucia, that little radish. In the eyes of outsiders, she was as cute and obedient as a little white flower.

The moment their eyes met, Lucia gave Anna with a delicate smiled that contained both joy and anxiety. “Mommy, I’m so happy.”

Right now, Anna had a very sacrilegious thought in her heart – did the gods get deceived by Lucia’s angelic appearance, just like those clueless people?
