Chapter 31: Guild Master

The afternoon of that day.

We passed through a big gate and arrived at the commercial city of the Lingoc Kingdom.

“There are so many cute houses!” (Dorami)

“It’s a design unique to this town.” (Jade)

The buildings facing the street are all colorful.

Some of them are solid brick buildings, but most of them have this fairytale-like design.

“So, what do you think? Does anything look familiar?” (Jade)

“Hmm… Not really. Dorami’s grandma’s house looks simpler. She’s probably in a different town.” (Dorami)

“We can’t say that for sure yet. This is the main street of a commercial city, after all.”

Dorami had been hiding in the attic the entire time so maybe she just never saw the main street.

“Are all of these buildings shops?!” (Dorami)

“Yeah. Even in a commercial city, a main street is particularly busy. To catch the eyes of any travelers, they try to show their individuality, which explains why there are so many colorful shops.” (Jade)

“If there are these many shops, we might be able to find a Dorami Sword!” (Dorami)

Dorami’s hand was devoid of the Dorami Sword.

When she was using it as a cane earlier, it snapped in half.

In commercial cities, they sell rare things that come not just from the country itself, but the entire world.

“Though, I don’t think they would sell a stick.” (Jade)

“It’s not just a stick. The thickness, length, and grip of the Dorami Sword are all outstanding. It’s a super rare stick that you wouldn’t see very often…” (Dorami)

Dorami said in disappointment, remembering her broken sword.

She liked it so much that she even built a grave for it…

“If it’s THAT rare, they might sell it somewhere.” (Jade)

“…Really?” (Dorami)

“Yeah. It could also be sold out, though. So, if you want to buy something else, I’ll buy it for you. All you have to do is cheer up.” (Jade)

After encouraging her, Dorami nodded vigorously.

“Mmm! Dorami will cheer up because if she’s sad, the Dorami Sword will be sad too!” (Dorami)

“You have to be a strong girl for the Dorami Sword!” (Jade)

“Dorami, get stronger!” (Dorami)

“That’s the spirit! But before we go shopping, let’s go search for Onyx-san.” (Jade)

“Let’s do it! Oiii, Onyx, if you’re here, replyyyyyy!” (Dorami)

If she found him like that, it’d be a miracle.

As expected, Onyx-san didn’t reply, and all Dorami did was stand out.

Just a few days ago, she was so afraid of leaving the country and now she’s standing out like this… She’s really become stronger.

“Doesn’t look like he’s here. Let’s try shouting over there!” (Dorami)

“Your throat will get sore if you shout that much.” (Jade)

“It’s for Garnet and Marin’s sake. Dorami will endure! Jade, aren’t you going to shout too?” (Dorami)

“In the first place, there’s no need to shout. We can just gather information from the guild.” (Jade)

Onyx-san is an adventurer. The money he uses to travel should be from the quests he takes.

If he came to this down, he would’ve visited the guild.

If the time he got the rewards coincide with the time he disappeared, it’s normal to think that something happened to the place where the request took place. If we got there, we might be able to find some clues.

“Do you know where the guild is?” (Dorami)

“I came here a few years ago, it’s this way.” (Jade)

We walked through the streets and stepped into a majestic guild.

T/N: I feel like there are so many unnecessary adjectives when he’s describing stuff. Wonderful gate, splendid guild, etc. I just change them if they sound too weird.

I usually make Dorami wait outside, but this might take some time so she’s coming with me.

“Excuse me. I’d like to check if an acquaintance of mine has visited the guild.” (Jade)

I walked up to the counter and talked to the receptionist.

The receptionist looked apologetic.

“Unfortunately, by the guild’s rules, we are not allowed to disclose personal information to third parties.”

Hmmm, that’s a bit of a problem. I didn’t know there was a rule like that.

In the future, I’d marry Garnet-san and Onyx-san would become my family, but right now, it’s a bit…

“I understand, sorry for my unreasonable request.” (Jade)

“No, it’s alright. I’m sorry for not being able to help.”

Ideally, we’d be able to find out the information from the guild. But, right now, I guess I have no choice but to gather information from taverns and inns that adventurers are more likely to visit.

When I tried to move away, Dorami lowered her head.

“Please. Onyx is my friend’s father, we really need to find him…” (Dorami)

“Uugh… I’m sorry. I really want to help, but the rules say that…”

“Please do something about it… Dorami will give you this, so please…” (Dorami)

Dorami handed over an exceptionally beautiful pebble.

“What is this?”

“It’s Dorami’s treasure. T-two, she’ll give you two…” (Dorami)

Dorami took out more pebbles and the receptionist lowered her eyebrows, looking embarrassed.

When Dorami placed the third pebble on the counter, the receptionist let out a resigned sigh.

“I will check with the guild master, so please wait for a moment.”

“Is that okay?” (Jade)

“It’s probably not going to go through, but I’ll still try to do something.”

“Thank you very much!” (Jade)

“Thank you! Please take care of my pebbles…!” (Dorami)

“I can’t take the pebbles…”

“Eh?! You’re going to ask for nothing in exchange?! You’re a really good person…” (Dorami)

“Uuu… The pressure is too much. Please, don’t cry, okay…?”

The receptionist emphasized the last part and moved towards the door.

After a while, a dignified uncle appears.

T/N: Ojisan (おじさん).

The guild master.

“He looks like a frightening uncle… Dorami needs about five pebbles to persuade him…” (Dorami)

Dorami peeked into her pouch and checked the number of pebbles.

Though, she probably doesn’t need to give him any.

As soon as the guild master saw me, he gave me a friendly smile.

“Ooh! So it was you!” (Guild Master)

“Do you still remember me?” (Jade)

“Of course I do! Now, now, since we’re going to be talking, please come this way.” (Guild Master)

We were led to the guild master’s room.

When I was asked to take a seat, I sat down on the sofa.

The guild master looked at us with a smile.

“Would you like a drink?” (Guild Master)

“No, I’m fine.” (Jade)

“Dorami wants juice.” (Dorami)

Her throat was probably parched from all that yelling earlier.

Upon receiving the juice, Dorami downed it in one go.

“Puha—! Thank you! Uncle, you’re actually a good person!” (Dorami)

“No, no, that was just normal manners. I am indebted to Jade-sama, after all.” (Jade)

“You two know each other?” (Dorami)

“Yeah, we met once before.” (Jade)

The last time I visited was two years ago.

I was tasked to subjugate a black dragon.

It was only the second time I’ve fought against one.

When I turned in my quest to defeat the black dragon at the 18th counter, the guild master—who had heard rumors about the black dragon’s defeat—came all the way from the Lingoc Kingdom to ask for my help.

“I’ve already heard about it. You want to know the visit history of an acquaintance, yes?” (Guild Master)

“Yeah. Onyx-san is the father of someone important to me, and he’s been missing for 12 years. I don’t know if he ever visited this guild, can you please tell me about it…?” (Jade)

“Dorami is also asking you!” (Dorami)

Dorami put her hand over her pouch so she could hand over her pebbles at any time.

The guild master smiled.

“I was initially going to refuse, but if the request is coming from Jade-sama, it’s a different matter.” (Guild Master)

“Really?” (Jade)

“You accepted my request, so it’s only right that I do the same.” (Guild Master)

“Thank you!” (Jade)

“Thanks!” (Dorami)

“It’s fine, it’s fine. However, it would take about three days to look up the history from 12 years ago…” (Guild Master)

“There’s no problem with that!” (Jade)

“In that case, please come back in three days’ time.” (Guild Master)

“Got it. Thank you very much!” (Jade)

“Thank you for the juice too!” (Dorami)

We were seen off by the guild master as we left the guild.

Well then, all that’s left is to kill some time. We’ve made enough progress, so after the invitation, I’ll go back to the capital for a bit.

“What are we going to do for three days?” (Dorami)

“Shopping, maybe. We still have time, do you want to rest at the inn first?” (Jade)

“Agreed! Actually, Dorami was feeling a little tired.” (Dorami)

Dorami, you worked hard and walked a lot today.

Since it was decided, we headed to the inn.

We headed to the corner room on the second floor and Dorami headed straight to bed.

“It’s a bunk bed~” (Dorami)

“It’s been a while since we’ve got one. Where do you want to sleep?”

“The one above is better! The last time DoramiI slept on the bottom bunk, she bumped her head when she woke up…” (Dorami)

“You were woken up in an instant.” (Jade)

“Dorami doesn’t need that kind of alarm clock… That’s why the higher one is better!” (Dorami)

Dorami climbed the ladder and immediately checked how comfortable the bed was.”

“How is it?” (Jade)

“If Dorami lets her guard down, she might fall asleep…” (Dorami)

Yawning, Dorami sat up.

She looked down at me and beckoned me.

“Jade, you too! Check how comfy the bed is!” (Dorami)

“Yes, yes.” (Jade)

I climbed the ladder and Dorami moved to the edge of the bed.

“It’s fluffy, but isn’t it a bit too narrow?” (Jade)

“A small one is just right. If you sleep alone, it’s just wide and uncomfortable.” (Dorami)

“Well, it’s because we always sleep together.” (Jade)

She’s afraid of falling off the bed if she sleeps alone, so I’m like the stopper.

While I was laying down, Dorami yawned again.

“Fuwaa…. Dorami’s getting really sleepy…” (Dorami)

“I’ll wake you up when it’s time for dinner.” (Jade)

“Mhm! Dorami already drank delicious juice, so she’s also going to have delicious dreams…” (Dorami)

Perhaps exhausted from walking, Dorami immediately fell asleep.
