Chapter 41: Hero’s Request

We returned to the Kingdom of Sundeil by the early afternoon of that day.

“Uooo! Dorami is back!” (Dorami)

“Welcome back, Jade-san! Dorami-chan!”

“I’m back.” (Jade)

“Dorami’s back~!” (Dorami)

Dorami cheerfully greeted the townspeople she was viewing through her opera glasses.

She’s looking around the streets to see if there was anything that changed about her home. She looked at the bakery, the barbershop, then at the bronze statue before looking satisfied.

“The unchanging scenery is welcoming Dorami home…” (Dorami)

“Good for you.” (Jade)

“Dorami’s glad nothing changed! After all, Dorami loves this town!” (Dorami)

We did eat a lot, buy a lot, and made lots of fun memories.

Now then,

“Should we go to the guild?” (Jade)

“Let’s go~! Dorami will tell everyone an adventure story~!” (Dorami)

We headed to the guild.

As usual, I made Dorami wait in front of the entrance and entered the guild by myself.

While returning the adventurers’ greetings, I headed for the 18th counter. My eyes were unintentionally captivated by the sight.

She’s as cute as always…

I only feel like I’ve returned to the capital when Garnet-san greets me.

“Hello, I’m Jade! I’ve completed my quest!” (Jade)

“So it’s Jade-sama, please wait for a moment.” (Garnet)

Her voice sounded indifferent, but I could tell it was a bit brighter. And, her mouth was slightly curved into a smile.

I’m so happy. Garnet-san, you’re glad that I’m back.

“It’s a Nightmare subjugation quest. Let me confirm the magic stone.” (Garnet)

“Yes, here’s the Nightmare’s magic stone!” (Jade)

“…It’s confirmed. This is the cheque for the reward of 25 million Gol.” (Garnet)

“Thank you very much!” (Jade)

I put the cheque in my pocket and left the guild.

In front of the guild—as usual, Dorami was surrounded by children.

…But, it looks like there’s a lot more this time.

“And that’s how the monster Nightmare, who controls dreams and gives nightmares, perished…” (Dorami)

“This adventure story is too scary…!”

“I’m definitely going to have a nightmare today…”

Listening to the story about the Nightmare, the children trembled.

Dorami smiled,

“Then, Dorami will tell a fun story this time!”

“Yay~!”

“After defeating the Nightmare, Jade and Dorami headed to the capital of Lingoc. There was a festival celebrating the king’s birthday!” (Dorami)

“A festival, how nice~”

“It’s a place you have to visit at least once… There were lots of delicious things and even… tadah! I bought this from there~” (Dorami)

“S-so cool!”

“These are opera glasses! What’s more, it even has the crest of the Lingoc Kingdom!” (Dorami)

“A-amazing!”

“It has the feel of an adventurer who traveled the world!”

“And, Dorami also won second place in the Cute Contest with cute girls from all over Lingoc!” (Dorami)

“You got the runner-up?!”

“This is the song that won the hearts of the judges!” (Dorami)

Dorami played ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star’.

The moment her performance ended, applause!

Dorami was very pleased with everyone’s reactions.

Well, it looks like she’s done telling the story. It should be a good time to call her now.

“Dorami, it’s about time—” (Jade)

“Ah, Dorami-chan! You’re back!”

And then, a bunch of girls gathered.

These are the children who always listen to Dorami’s adventures with sparkling eyes.

“Umu. Dorami just returned. She just came back from fighting a Nightmare…” (Dorami)

Dorami’s eyes widened.

She began trembling as she looked at the back of the girls’ hands.

There was a Flower Crest, though they were just buds.

“Ah, this? We made our debut as adventurers~!”

“Eeh?! You’ve become an adventurer!” (Dorami)

“Yeah! We just defeated a slime a while ago!”

“It was all wobbly and tough to fight!”

“H-heeehh… Congratulations!” (Dorami)

“Thanks! We’re going to turn in the quest, accept another, earn more money, then buy powerful weapons!”

While saying that with big smiles, the girls rushed into the guild.

Well then.

“Should we go home?” (Jade)

“U-umu. Let’s go.” (Dorami)

Dorami slowly trudged after me. Where’d all her tension from earlier go?

“What’s wrong? You don’t look good.” (Jade)

“N-nothing’s wrong!” (Dorami)

“It doesn’t look like it’s nothing. Could it have something to do with the kids from earlier?” (Jade)

“H-how did you know?!” (Dorami)

“I can tell just by looking at your face, we’re friends, after all. The kids are becoming adventurers, so you’re feeling pressured, right?” (Jade)

“T-that’s right… After all, once you become an adventurer, Dorami’s adventure stories will sound boring…” (Dorami)

“This and that are different. Going on adventures is fun, but Dorami’s adventure stories are also fun to hear.” (Jade)

“But one day, they might find out… Dorami isn’t actually strong enough to go on adventures like in her stories…” (Dorami)

“That’s not true. You’re strong, you were traveling all alone before you met me.” (Jade)

“That’s a long time ago…” (Dorami)

I don’t think it was THAT long ago but… does it seem like that from the perspective of the young Dorami?

“The Dorami now can’t do anything without Jade.” (Dorami)

“Then, do you want to try traveling alone?” (Jade)

If she knows she can manage without me, she should regain her confidence.

“B-but, Dorami isn’t allowed to leave Jade’s side… That’s what the king said.” (Dorami)

“He might not like you going out alone, but I don’t think there’s a problem with just going around the neighborhood to run errands.” (Jade)

“Is that considered an adventure…?” (Dorami)

“Of course it is. It’s considered a big adventure for a child at your age. And, I, a hero am the one saying it. If the other kids hear that you were entrusted to do errands by a hero and even completed them all by yourself, they’ll praise you, saying “A-amazing…!” and stuff like that.” (Jade)

“Oooh! OOOOH! T-that’s amazing! Dorami wants to do errands!” (Dorami)

Dorami is surprisingly on board.

That’s good. I hope she regains her confidence.

“What should Dorami do?! You can ask her to do anything!” (Dorami)

“Well then, why don’t you go to the tailor and pick up your dress?” (Jade)

“Leave it to me!” (Dorami)

“And, I also want you to change into the dress at the tailor and deliver the clothes you’re wearing to the laundromat.” (Jade)

“No problem!” (Dorami)

With Dorami rejuvenated, we went home.

I gave her some money because she was so excited to go out and she left in high spirits.

I hope her first errand goes well.
