Chapter 42: First Errand

POV: Dorami

Dorami feels like she’s doing something really great.

After all, Jade request this himself!

Dorami was a bit worried when she saw the children making their debut as adventurers—

If they had had a fun adventure, she was worried that they would find Dorami’s stories boring but…

All of those worries were blown away.

If Dorami completes this errand, she’ll be able to tell her adventure stories with pride!

…Though, the truth is that Dorami has another problem but she’s trying not to think about it. It’s a wish that won’t come true anyway.

“Dorami’s here~!” (Dorami)

Dorami managed to reach the tailor without getting lost.

When she entered the store and rang the bell on the counter, an old man came out from the back of the store.

“Oh, Jade-san isn’t with you today?”

“Dorami came alone! After all, Jade personally asked Dorami to run errands!” (Dorami)

“Is that so? How praiseworthy.”

“It’s not that big of a deal…” (Dorami)

Dorami grinned.

To be described as praised by an old man who seems to have lived over 70 years…

Dorami once again realized that she was doing something amazing.

But, don’t get carried away!

After all, Dorami, you haven’t finished your errands yet!

Dorami tightened her expression and talked to the old man.

“Dorami came to pick up her dress! Is it ready?” (Dorami)

“It is. Please wait for a moment.”

The owner retreated to the back of the store.

As Dorami was nervously waiting…

“Uooo! S-so that’s Dorami’s dress!” (Dorami)

Dorami was in high spirits after seeing the dress that looked like her favorite one-piece.

She immediately went to the fitting room to try on the dress… it was a perfect fit.

“How is it?”

“It’s the best! Here’s the money!” (Dorami)

Dorami feels like she’s grown up when she pays for it herself.

The old man waved at Dorami with a smile as she left the store.

“…” (Dorami)

Dorami stopped and looked for acquaintances with a sharp look.

She wants them to ask what she’s doing. If Dorami answers, “Jade asked Dorami to run errands,” they would definitely say “A-amazing…!”

However, there were no acquaintances in sight and Dorami continued walking with some disappointment.

She only visited the laundromat once. There’s a chance she might get lost…

Dorami continued walking down the familiar road, even though she felt a little uneasy.

“Ah, found it~!” (Dorami)

She found the laundromat!

As soon as she entered the store, she was greeted by an old woman.

“Welcome. Ara? Jade-san isn’t with you today?”

“Dorami came alone! After all, Jade personally asked Dorami to run errands!” (Dorami)

“Oh, is that so? How praiseworthy.”

“It’s not that big of a deal…” (Dorami)

Dorami relaxed her cheeks and entrusted her clothes to the old woman.

After paying, Dorami left.

“It was easier than Dorami thought…!” (Dorami)

All that’s left is to go home. Jade will be surprised once he learns that Dorami didn’t get lost and completed the errand smoothly.

While looking forward to being complimented by Jade, Dorami was about to head home when—

“….Mu.” (Dorami)

Just then, Dorami heard a cat meowing from the back alley.

It sounded like it was fighting.

When she glanced at the back alley…

“Ah!” (Dorami)

There was a small cat being bullied by a big cat.

“H-hey! Bullying the weak is bad!” (Dorami)

Glare.

The big cat glared at Dorami with its sharp eyes.

Dorami flinched, but she can’t run away.

She grabbed the Dorami Sword that was in her pouch and confronted the cat.

“If that’s what you want, Dorami will take you on! …But, the best solution is still to have a discussion! Now, surrender quietly…!”

“Fushaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

“GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!” (Dorami)

The cat jumped at Dorami.

She tried to back away and fell down.

The cat rampaged on top of Dorami’s belly and then ran away while holding the Dorami Sword in its mouth.

“H-hey! Give it back!!” (Dorami)

Dorami ran after it.

It ran down the alley, the paths, and the back alleys to the winding roads—

Before she knew it, she lost sight of the cat and was lost herself.

“W-where is this place…?” (Dorami)

It was a dim street.

This place isn’t in any of Dorami’s memories.

“F-for now, Dorami should collect some information.” (Dorami)

There was a tavern nearby, luckily.

Jade said that taverns are the perfect place to gather information, so let’s ask them how to get home.

Dorami’s first tavern. She’s a little scared but she still mustered up the courage to open the door.

“E-excuse me—” (Dorami)

“Gahahaha!”

“Gyahahaha!”

Patan.

Since Dorami could only see people who looked scary, she quietly closed the door.

“F-for now, there’s no other choice but to walk! If Dorami keeps walking, she’ll end up at home eventually!” (Dorami)

However, walking blindly is dangerous. If Dorami just walks around aimlessly, she might get even more lost than she is now.

Dorami can’t remember where and how she ran, but she’s sure that she went through a back alley. If she just goes back into that back alley—

“…” (Dorami)

In the face of the dimly lit back alley, Dorami was paralyzed.

Something might pop out from behind that trash can or under that wooden box…

“A-as expected, Dorami should just take a different route. If she goes around, she’ll return home someday—” (Dorami)

“Ara~?” (Surin)

“Higii?!” (Dorami)

Suddenly, a voice called out from behind Dorami, and her heart jumped.

She turned around very, very slowly…

Dorami felt relief from the bottom of her heart.

The one standing there was a woman she knew—

The apothecary, Surin.

T/N: Just a reminder, she’s from chapter 13.

Dorami hasn’t talked to her very much and she had a terrifying experience at the pharmacy, but Surin still worked hard to prepare that medicine for Garnet.

She’s definitely a good person.

“You’re Dorami-chan, aren’t you~? What are you doing in a place like this~?” (Surin)

“T-the truth is Dorami’s lost—walking around right now…” (Dorami)

She was too embarrassed to admit she was lost.

“Taking a walk is fun, isn’t it~? But, it’s dangerous to go when the sun goes down~” (Surin)

“C-certainly. Dorami is going home now. Surin, you should go home too! …Or, are you just going out?” (Dorami)

“I’m on my way home from having dinner~” (Surin)

Yay! Dorami can find her way home from the apothecary!

“If that’s the case, Dorami will follow you home! Because it’s dangerous to walk the streets alone at night!” (Dorami)

“That’s right~ Do you want to go home holding hands with onee-chan?” (Surin)

“Yeah!” (Dorami)

While tightly holding hands, Dorami headed for the apothecary.

On the way, Dorami told her about how she successfully completed an errand and bravely fought off a big cat.

“Amazing~” (Surin)

Since Surin complimented her, Dorami was in a good mood by the time she reached the apothecary.

She told Surin “Bye, bye~” in front of the apothecary and headed home.

POV: Jade

“D-Dorami’s home…!” (Dorami)

“Welcome home. You’re a bit late…what happened to your clothes?” (Jade)

Her pure white one-piece had cat paw prints all over it.

I was worried that she got lost since she was coming home late but it looks like something happened on top of that.

“Dorami fought a big cat who was bullying a small cat… And then, Dorami Sword was stolen…” (Dorami)

Dorami looked like she was about to cry.

She loved it so much that she always checked the grip every day and polished it so it could always stay shiny.

“I’ll buy you another one if we find it, so cheer up.” (Jade)

I tried to cheer her up but Dorami still looked depressed.

She then let out a melancholic sigh.

“Dorami thought she was a child who could do better… She never thought that she’d get lost in the capital she lives in… She doesn’t have the qualifications to tell adventure stories…”

“That’s not true. Getting lost and losing your weapon are all things adventurers have to go through.” (Jade)

“R-really?” (Dorami)

“Yeah. I’ve also gotten lost and had my weapon broken. In other words, Dorami has become more of an adventurer.” (Jade)

“More of an adventurer…” (Dorami)

A smile slowly crept up on her face.

That’s good. She seems to have recovered.

“Even though you got lost, you managed to get home safely.” (Jade)

“All thanks to Surin!” (Dorami)

“Surin-san?” (Jade)

“Umu. If Dorami hadn’t met Surin back there, she would still be lost…” (Dorami)

“I see. I have to go thank her next time.” (Jade)

“Let’s do that! Dorami will also let her listen to ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star as thanks!”

As she yelled with all her heart, her stomach suddenly made a sound.

“Dorami’s hungry after having a big adventure!” (Dorami)

“It’s almost time for Garnet-san to finish work so let’s have dinner together.” (Jade)

Dorami nodded and quenched her throat with water.

As I was about to go to Garnet-san’s house, I heard a knock.

When I opened the door, my lover was standing there!

“Welcome, Garnet-san! Please come in!” (Jade)

“Excuse me.” (Garnet)

Garnet-san handed Dorami a flower pot.

“Thank you for taking care of it~ Eh? Momochi, you’ve grown!

“You’re right. There are small buds sprouting.” (Jade)

“You’re too cute!” (Dorami)

I warned Dorami not to drop the flower pot because she was jumping up and down.

Seeing the two of us like that, Garnet-san smiled.

“I’m glad to see that you two are in good health.” (Garnet)

“I’m also glad that I can see Garnet-san again!” (Jade)

“Dorami too~! She’s looking forward to going to your home the day after tomorrow~!” (Dorami)

I’m a bit nervous but, I’m also looking forward to it.

I wanted to take Onyx-san home with us if possible, but…

“I’m sorry… It looks like Onyx-san hasn’t visited the capital’s guild in the past 12 years either.” (Jade)

“I see…” (Garnet)

“However, it looks like he did go there 14 years ago.” (Jade)

I had only asked the guild to look into the visitation history up to 12 years ago.

But, thanks to the guild’s hard work, they were able to finish earlier than expected.

Since there was still some time before the day that they promised me, they went back further.

“This means that Onyx-san IS traveling around the world!” (Jade)

At first, I wasn’t actually sure about him traveling around the world.

Adventurers don’t normally cross borders into other countries because they’re busy completing quests in their own country.

But, Onyx-san loves adventuring.

It wouldn’t be strange for him to travel to other countries just like he traveled to Lingoc 14 years ago.

“If you’re the one saying it, I also feel like he’s traveling somewhere.” (Garnet)

“Yes! That’s why, I’m going to search the world too! I’ll definitely find him! And then, let’s listen to Onyx-sans adventure stories together!” (Jade)

“I’m looking forward to that day too.” (Garnet)

“For today, Dorami’s going to tell you about her adventure stories! After all, Dorami was on a big adventure until just now!” (Dorami)

“No wonder your clothes look so unique.” (Garnet)

“It’s an honorable injury… Do you want to hear Dorami’s story?” (Dorami)

“I do.” (Garnet)

“Then, Dorami will tell you!” (Dorami)

“I’m hungry, should we do it while we walk?” (Jade)

“Agreed~!” (Dorami)

And so, together with Dorami who was gesturing and talking about adventures, we headed to the restaurant.
