Where You Are

Chapter 31 - Tell me

When the pizza came Min-Joon and I dug in. He seemed to enjoy it a lot which surprised me. I thought I was going to see the typical kdrama male lead that would look at the food with wonder and disgust.

"I'm surprised" I say "Usually fancy guys like you don't eat normal people food"

"What types of guys are you comparing me with?" he asked with a smile "I'll let you know, I love pizza. Especially cheese"

I found this as an appropriate time to talk with him. Its just the two of us and he seems in a relatively good mood. Maybe if I can get him to open up to me, I can freely talk with him about his problems, he'll see me as a confidant, someone he can trust with anything.

"So, tell me about yourself" I say. He stops chewing on his food "I'd like to know the person who's roof I'm living under"

"There's not much to say" he says "I'm the Vice President of LV Entertainment and you already know my family because of the power point presentation Secretary Chang gave you"

"That's not what I meant. Tell me about your life, before you became a Vice President, tell me about what you want to do in the future. Tell me about your romantic relationsh.i.p.s…" before I could continue, he stopped me.

"Why do you want to know so much about me?" he seemed skeptical of me now. Just like he was in the hospital. Maybe he thought I was spying on him for someone.

"Sometimes its better to talk to a stranger about your life than it is to talk to a friend or someone you know" I say.

"You're someone I know" he countered. He really doesn't want to talk about his life with me.

"But I'm a complete stranger as well. You only know the basics about me, but you and I don't even know if they are real or not" I try to keep the conversation lighthearted by smiling and chuckling "Come on. You won't lose anything by talking to me" This last sentence I kept my tone low, trying to sound friendly and caring.

With that, he started talking. He told me about his parents death when he was 8. They died in a car accident. Another car hit them and then ran off. The cops never caught him.

He also told me about how he went to live with his uncle and cousin, but they were never really nice to him. He felt like they thought of him as a burden, so he moved in with his grandmother and she was nice at first, but she made him change schools and made him study what she wanted him to. He couldn't do anything without her approval.

He told me about going to University and meeting a nice girl. She was the first friend he ever made. For a second, I thought the girl he talked about was the one in the picture.

"She liked me and I grew to like her"

"She was your first love" I say in an understanding manner.

"Well, actually my first love was Ae Ra. Our family got along with hers and she would come over to play all the time, but we grew apart once my parents died" he said "I grew apart from a lot of people"

"But you fell in love with this girl at University, right?" I ask. He glances at me, then nods.

"She didn't care who I was or where I came from. She liked me for me" he said. I felt like the viewers were getting to see a flashback. Sadly, I had to stay here and listen to it but don't get me wrong, I was enjoying listening to him.

His expression darkened as he looked down at his food. He was planning on telling me the rest, but it seemed like he felt he had already told me too much. So, I decided to talk for him.

"Let me guess, you two dated but parted ways in a not so friendly way" I say.

"Yeah, something like that" he said but he didn't get into more details.

"Did you ever see her again after that?" I asked him.

He looked up at me and said "Okay, that's it for tonight" he gets up from the table, then puts his plate in the sink. I didn't want him to shut me out. If he leaves now, he might not want to talk to me about his life again, so I decide to do something very stupid.

"I remember something!" I say, which makes him turn his head towards me. I get up, hopefully what I'm about to tell him doesn't make him question whether I remembered more than I'm actually letting on.

"I remembered that I love someone. I've loved that guy for a long time, but I never told him because I was scared he might not love me back" I say "I don't remember his face or the reasons why I love him, but I'm telling you this because, liking someone and that person liking you back, I think that's almost a miracle. Just because you parted ways badly, doesn't mean that you have to be stuck on that day forever. Remember the good things and know that she left your side for a reason. It doesn't matter whether you think it's a good reason or a bad one, you just have to accept that that's how life works. It doesn't always work in our favor"

I said that because now I know that he can't bring himself to love anyone because of the girl in the picture. I decided to tell him about Noah because just like him I can't move on from my first love, but either way, I'm not the best person to be giving relationship advice, if I can't move on from Noah, how can he move on from that girl?

"Why are you telling me this?" he asked.

"Because the way you talked about her. It shows that you cared about her, a lot" before he can say anything or maybe even yell at me, saying that an outsider shouldn't talk, I ran off leaving him to clean up. I hid in my bedroom hoping that he will think about what I said and maybe by tomorrow he'll accept that after so many years, its finally time for him to let her go.

What I wasn't expecting was for him to come knocking at my door and say "Thank you" I opened the door but saw him already going into his bedroom.

If just a little bit, I'm sure I got closer to him.
