Where You Are

Chapter 34 - My day out

As I walk around the town, I suddenly sneeze "Is someone talking about me?" I wonder.

"Hey, little girl. Would you like to eat at our restaurant?" a tall overweight man wearing an apron approached me "Do you speak korean?" he asked me. It would be easier to shake my head and keep walking, I did come out to look at the sights and find good places where a couple can have romantic moments.

I look towards the restaurant he was pointing at. It seemed relatively new but inside, it looked like it could use some cleaning.

"Come!" he said excitedly, taking my arm and pulling me inside. This looks like a good place for a drunken scene. I smiled, jotted down the name of the place on my phone's notes and went back outside, thanking him.

"Wait, you didn't order anything!" he yelled out to me. Walking down the streets I found places that would be good for a confession scene, a rejection scene, an argument scene and even a scene where if it starts to rain the couple can easily go there for shelter. This is kind of fun.

Waiting in a stoplight, I see the light turn red for the cars, so it's time for the pedestrians to go. As I take the first step, I hear a car skidding, when I turn my head there's a car just a few feet away from me. People yell at me to move but I just fall to the ground and the car stops a few inches away from me.

An angry middle-aged man gets out of the car. He's dressed in fine clothing and, overall, he just looks like a character that's rich.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" he yells at me. I groan in frustration. First, I had to deal with the drunkards trying to hit on a girl scene and now I have to deal with the grumpy old man that's planning on suing scene.

"Why is it always me?!" I yell. The man seems surprised by my sudden outburst "I'm always getting into things I never wanted to get into in the first place!" I say in a desperate tone "That's happened to you too, right ahjussi?"

"Um…student…" the old man tries to get closer to me, and reach out his hand for mine, so he can help me up, but I start crying. That makes him take a step back.

"I mean, first I almost get molested…"

"WHAT?!" the old man asks shocked.

"And now I almost get run over…" I feel like crying. My day out had become a huge mess "I'm trying ahjussi…can't you see I'm trying" the man looked around, he noticed all the eyes that were on us. I'm sure he was worried about what everyone was thinking. Maybe he's bullying me or stuff like that.

The man goes to his car and brings me back a bottle of water "Uh, yes. You're trying your best…um, good job" he said as he looked down at me.

I hear sirens in the distance and see a police car closing in on us. It surprises me when I see none other than Tae-Woo step out of the car. He looks at the scene but when he notices me his face fills with worry and rushes to my side.

"Are you okay?" he asks me. I nod "Any bruises? Does anything hurt?" Tae-Woo gets up and looks at the man angrily.

"You better be grateful she's alright" Tae-Woo told the man with a stern tone in his voice and dark eyes. The man was shocked by Tae-Woo's words but, rather than cower nod, he got angry.

"Look at this guy. Did your parents never teach you any respect?" the man asked in an irritated tone. Tae-Woo was about to yell something back, but I stopped him.

"Tae-Woo, I'm fine" I say, reaching my hands out to him so he could help me stand. He helps me up and I bow to the old man.

"Both of you are coming with me, down to the station" Tae-Woo said.

At the station, it was just like in dramas, there was a guy behind bars, a couple arguing in front of a police officer, the man having a cut lip, two drunk guys holding ice bags to their faces yelling at each other in front of another police officer and then there were the three of us.

Tae-Woo asked the man for his name and other information but when it was my turn, he looked at me with a saddened expression but smiled anyways. That was the look of pity. I don't know why but his expression is making me feel guilty about lying. He just has one of those faces that you can't help but want to tell the truth to.

"Why aren't you asking her anything?" the man asked Tae-Woo.

"He already knows me" I told him. The man seemed angry maybe feeling he was being mistreated and that Tae-Woo was showing favoritism. He got up from his chair and pointed at us, he was about to yell and make a scene until I asked "Ahjussi, are you happy?" He looked at me confused. Tae-Woo seemed puzzled by my question. Both wondering how my question has anything to do with our predicament.

"You listened to me when I was ranting and after that, I felt better, thinking that someone was listening to me" I said "I'm young but I have a lot of problems. I was wondering if you also have problems."

"I know I might not be the best person to talk to but…if just a little…" I don't know how to finish this sentence. I'm bullshitting all of this. Suddenly I hear a sob. The man had started crying. Tae-Woo and I were shocked.

"No one has asked me how I've been in so long" he said through deep breaths. Tae-Woo and I glanced at each other. I pat the man on his back and shush him.

"It's okay, it's okay. Everything will be alright" I say as if I'm comforting a child who just fell from the swing.

After the whole crying fiasco, we all went to a small local restaurant, at a close walking distance from the precinct and had grilled chicken and a lot of soju. The man said it was on him, but I didn't want to seem like I took advantage of his mood to get food. I already did that with Min-Joon, and I got clothes. I can't do that again.

"Hey, I'll do it. You can pay me back, the next time we meet" I say as I fill his cup with more booze "You need this more than I do" he laughs but thanks me. Tae-Woo hardly talked though, he was more of a spectator to the whole thing and seeing as how I decided to pay, he didn't order anything and just asked for water.

I knew he was trying to be nice and was thinking about my economic situation but that just made me feel bad about myself so I ordered something big and told Tae-Woo that I couldn't possible eat all of it, so he had to share it with me.

He noticed what I had done and smiled "Nothing gets past you, does it Hannah?" he asked. I chuckled at his comment. Surprisingly, when we finished eating and go outside, the sky had grown a bit darker. It seemed it was going to rain.

"Oh no. Would you like me to give you a ride home?" the man asked me "It's the least I can do for your kindness" Tae-Woo cut in saying that he was going to drive me home. He said it rather impatiently that it made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable.

"You shouldn't be driving" Tae-Woo said "You drank 4 whole bottles of soju"

"I know that. I was talking about my driver" when the man said that a black car parked itself next to us. Is this man really rich? Only rich people have drivers. He waved at us but before he got in the back of the car, he gave me a card that said his name, his email and it had the logo of the company he works for.

"Stop by whenever you can, I still haven't forgotten that I owe you for today"

"You're the Chairman of Gu Group!" Tae-Woo said surprised. I thought back to the last name Gu. I've heard it before…I widen my eyes in shock.

"You don't by chance have a daughter that is waiting for a marriage date with Mr. Lee Min-Joon, do you?" I ask him. The man laughed and nodded that he was.

"How did you know?"

"Mr. Lee is my boss. At the moment I'm his secretary, while his real one is on leave"

"It's like it was destiny for us to meet!" the man said. After that he obviously asked me to set his daughter up with Min-Joon and said he'll be waiting for my call. It's quite obvious that I won't be doing that but if he somehow makes an appearance, as well as his daughter, it could spell trouble for Min-Joon and Yu-Na. Why do things keep getting more and more complicated? When he leaves, Tae-Woo looks at me.

"So, are you getting along with Min-Joon?" he asks me. I rolled my eyes, he wants to ask me something else, I just know it.

"What do you really want to ask me?" I ask him.

"Are you really working for Min-Joon?" he asked me. I decide to tell him a version of the truth.

"He doesn't want me to stay home alone so we decided that I will go with him to work so he can watch over me. Although I'm doing secretarial work, I'm mostly just sitting there."

"It hasn't been that long since you left the hospital, you should be resting, not working for that bastard" in retrospect if I actually was suffering from amnesia, I think I should be resting but it isn't going to get me anywhere and I need to build relationsh.i.p.s with these characters as soon as possible if I'm ever planning on getting out of this place.

"Has Min-Joon…?" Tae-Woo turned to look at me but noticed tears streaming down my eyes. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and gave it to me.

"How many handkerchiefs do you have?" I ask him, trying to laugh. He forces a laugh just to keep the atmosphere light. He doesn't ask me why I'm crying though. I'm sure he knows why.

"You'll remember who you are, and you'll be reunited with your friends and family" he told me "I promise" he patted me on the head. I nodded. He made it sound so easy "Leave everything to me" that's where the problem lied. No cop or CEO with connections everywhere, can help me, I have to help myself.

I nod and he hands me 2 yellow slips of paper "This is for the new theme park opening this Saturday. Go with someone from work or maybe get Min-Joon to go with you. You deserve to relive so stress" he told me. I found this as the perfect opportunity to get Min-Joon and Yu-Na together, of course they won't quickly jump and say yes so, I'm going to play some tricks on them.

"Tae-Woo. You're a life saver!" I say happily. I'm sure my eyes were full of hope and my cheeks were red with happiness. He smiled at me and drove me home to Min-Joon's place. Hopefully Min-Joon is still bed-ridden and I won't have to deal with him scolding me for not going to work or just leaving the house.
