Soul Land: The Savage Star

Chapter 18 - 18: Happenings and 3rd ring

With Feng taking the dean of the school as his master and Beibei taking teacher Qian, two years and a half passed by. The special lessons happened every six months and each time, Teacher Qian's demands were higher. The last time, for example, he made everyone kill a prisoner. He also put more emphasis on 'knowledge' and the passing grade was now 20/30.

Other than that, nothing major happened, though, it seemed like he tried to make Beibei more loyal to spirit hall and trained him to be… more ruthless. Ideologies like " Might makes right, so spirit hall is always right " or " Those who go against spirit hall do not deserve to be treated as sentient beings " were also forced into Beibei's head, every day. Fortunately, Feng was here to constantly remind Beibei to take these claims with a grain of salt… Make that a wash-basin.

Each year, they went back to flying snow village and spent time with the nanny and Huo Li. Whenever they did, they spent all of their time NOT training to enjoy every second they had. Unfortunately, each year, they couldn't answer the simple question: How is your mom? They… haven't seen her for three years now but it was alright, they knew she was alive as dean Rè told them so, or more like told Feng who then told Beibei. Though, she didn't say anything more.

That aside, teacher Qian really was good at training people as Beibei's fighting techniques became so much better that he could stand up to Feng when he became a spirit grandmaster as well. Dean Rè, on the other hand, helped him train his physique more, coupled with his self-enhancing aura. The self-enhancing aura is what Feng could only do with his fists before.

He could now strengthen all of his body, though it didn't last longer than 30 seconds and he still had to put all of his focus and will into doing it. So, it was good as a last-ditch effort as it made him five times stronger and made him immune to heat. You have to note that in the beginning, he could only maintain that form for 5 seconds. Also, his second ring's aura, when he tried to compress it, could only make him half as strong as the first ring's but his reaction time, senses and speed were doubled, keeping the immunity to heat.

That aside, Feng could have chosen to graduate early, no, earlier since he was already a soul grandmaster but he waited for Beibei, who only became one recently. In fact, Feng even became a spirit elder a month ago. Or more like attained rank 30 because right now, he has been on a mindless walk for a whole month, obviously. It seemed like he really had to go near flying snow village for his rings.

This time, he was with the dean when he broke through but he didn't mind for she was a true ally. As he expected, he mindlessly walked toward Flying snow village's direction, bringing the question: what is so special about this village and what is its relation to him, to his spirit?

It took him a month but strangely, he was perfectly fine even though he walked for a whole month without doing anything else. Dean Rè, of course, tried to do things like stopping him, talking to him, place obstacles on his way and survey if spirit beasts really fled from his presence.

All of these actions revealed that his conjecture was right. Spirit beasts seemed to flee from him when he was in this state. And even though he was not unstoppable, he would just keep trying to walk while swinging his arms around when he was stopped and just resume walking normally when the thing obstructing him disappeared. So, now, he arrived at a clearing, again. But this time, the spirit beast awaiting him was not a plant.

The third spirit beast was a horse, a golden horse. Unlike the last two times, Feng regained consciousness immediately after meeting it, and not after absorbing the spirit. And, from the looks of it, it seemed like he would have to fight it to earn his ring as the beast took a charging stance and hissed threateningly.

Taken aback by the situation he found himself in, Feng almost didn't react when the horse charged him. Almost. He sprang to the side and tried punching it but his blow, which can destroy boulders by now, didn't even hurt it.

No scratch, no bounce, nothing. This was the first time this happened. No one until now could take his blows directly aside from dean Rè. He then jumped back to make some distance between them.

He would observe it carefully before trying anything. He knew that with dean Rè here, he didn't risk anything but this was his fight. He wanted to at least try to get the ring by himself. Furthermore, it's the first time he gets to fight without holding anything back.

He waited for the horse to charge him again but this time, the horse spun in front of him and kicked with both of its legs at his stomach. Not expecting this, Feng took the brunt of the attack and was jerked back to a tree behind him. Behind being twenty or so meters away. The blow was so powerful that said tree was uprooted.

But Feng got back up. With blood dripping from his mouth and maybe a rib or two cracked, but he stood back up. Once again, this was a first to him. Any teacher of the school could easily do the same to him but they wouldn't and so this was the first time he was injured to this extent. In fact, if it were not for his timely use of his first ring's enhancement, he would have been in a critical state right now.

Since he already began using his enhancement, he couldn't possibly waste time so he dashed toward the horse, that was observing him, and when he was right before it, he jumped to the side and kicked. Obviously, the horse tried to kick him but his jump confused it. It seems it didn't expect to taste his own medicine. This time, the blow he delivered was enough to make it lose balance at it fell to its side.

Not wasting this opportunity, Feng punched multiple times at the downed horse's head to finish quickly but after three or four blows, a shockwave erupted out of the horse and pushed him back, as well as deintegrated everything in a five-meter radius of its body. In fact, it was not disintegrating per se but more like scorched to disintegration.

Feng only got pushed back... because of his heat immunity. ' So this is its ability... Again, it's not an offensive ability per se, only a defensive one... Still better than support though. '

Getting back up, Feng charged at the horse, that, thanks to the powerful punches it received prior, was a bit disoriented. Like this, Feng switched with his second ring's enhancement as time ran out for the first. Though, this was maybe better as he could deliver faster blows and evade more easily. Like this, the next 30 seconds were spent on Feng punching and retreating whenever the horse tried to fight back, or use its ability.

By the time his enhancement time ran out, the horse was already on the ground, making last-ditch efforts, which are continuously using its ability. Though, this seemed to come at a price as its golden fur became grayer as it most likely overused it. Dean Rè then came next to Feng as he delivered the finishing blow and the golden particles entered his body.

She tried to them but they seemed to phase through her and still enter Feng's body. Still, it seemed like her touching them gave her a realization as she just stood there, lost in her thoughts as they finished entering Feng's body.

Since the matter was done, they went back to the academy. Feng and Beibei will take the early graduation test at the end of the year and enter the real academy the next. If they continued progressing like this, they could possibly participate in the next continental tournament as substitutes.

After all, they still had two years to progress.
