Chapter 14: I hit girls

After completing her task, Xia Yao’s heart was extremely comfortable; her eyes were smiling and her pace was full of joy. Not only that but all the questions on the math paper she had answered were right!
She planned to find a book to take a break, believing that she wouldn’t have to look at Xia Xi’s distorted face when she came back to the private room.

The aisles between the bookshelves were very narrow and she looked up and down all the way for books she was interested in.
“How to become the richest man”
“Making money for dummies”
“Follow me to get rich”
“Things I didn’t know when I started my business”

Ah, this was awesome! City T’s library had so many treasures! Xia Yao looked at each book with joy, trying to decide with difficulty which title to look at first.
Rather than being driven out by her psychologically troubled brother, she would prefer to leave the Xia family on her own initiative. But before that, she had to save enough money to support herself.

Xia Yao was completely lost in the ocean of books and finally made her choice on “I am the richest man”. But because the book was so high, even with her long legs, she needed to stand on tiptoe. Before she could grab it, she felt a little unstable and took half a step back. She hit a warm wall and realized someone was standing behind her. Was it a ghost? How come there was no sound when they walked?
Xia Yao looked back and found the person behind her was the licking dog number two. The aisle was very narrow and the two of them stood very close.
Ah, no, she had made up her mind yesterday to not call Ji Huai that way anymore. Ji Huai was a good person and she was a little surprised with his help today.
Which male protagonist didn’t like the heroine? Or was it the start of a sadomasochistic love story? Xia Yai was a little confused for a while and was not sure what direction the relationship between two of the leads was taking.

When Ji Huai saw the rare sight of Xia Yao dumbfounded, he felt that she was really cute and instinctively patted her head before asking nonchalantly: “What are you going to read?”
Xia Yao was completely woken up after being touched on the head like that. She smoothed her hair and answered honestly: “I am the richest man.”
“Huh?” Ji Huai was a little dazed.
Xia Yao blinked and repeated: “I am going to read “I am the richest man”.”
Ji Huai moved his gaze from the girl’s face and when he noticed the pile of entrepreneurial books, he realized he had followed her to the financial section. He glanced at the bookshelves and found the title “I am the richest man” on top, understanding she was trying to get this book.
“I will get it for you.” He said.
His whole body leaned forward. The young man was more than 180 cm tall and with one hand near Xia Yao’s head and the other grabbing the book, the two of them were close enough she could smell his clean and refreshing fragrance again. She could also feel his hot breath and for a moment, their two figures looked like they were embracing each other.
Under such ambiguity, Xia Yao frowned. She felt petite and delicate, like a small chick hiding under its mother hen’s wing.

Ji Huai quickly took the book; when he lowered his arm, his sleeve accidentally rubbed against the tip of Xia Yao’s nose and he finally realized how close they were. Close enough to clearly see each of her long eyelashes and his heart started beating faster.
“It’s too narrow here, I’m sorry.” Ji Huai’s voice was slightly rushed. He handed the book to the girl and took a small step back.
Xia Yao couldn’t figure out why Mother Hen seemed embarrassed but she touched the tip of her nose and said: “Thank you.”
She then suddenly thought of something and added: “I’m sorry for what happened in the room just now. It was a matter between Xia Xi and I.”
Ji Huai was a good person, she should apologize.
“It was nothing.” The boy smiled, “Thank you too. If it weren’t for you, I would have never known about it.”
For a moment, Xia Yao felt that Ji Huai really did not like Xia Xi, and the next second, she heard the answer.
“Ah, I just lent her a pen. I don’t like her, don’t get me wrong.”
Xia Yao smiled and hummed but didn’t believe him in her heart. Xia Xi was his heroine after all!

The two of them walked back to the private room side by side, during which Ji Huai also grabbed a book that was so profound Xia Yao couldn’t even understand the title.
“By the way.” The boy suddenly said.
“Hm?”
“Read less of this kind of book in the future, it gives too many false illusions.”

Because of the upcoming midterm exam, most students stayed after school all week to review. Class F was not really concerned but Xia Yao was still there to help Xu Shizhou with tutoring. It had been the case for a few days and she had to stop any charity activities with her friends. Fortunately, under the devilish learning pressure, there had been no incidents of cheating scumbags recently.

It had rained last night and the temperature had dropped sharply. There were only a few people left in the classroom, the heater was off and the sun was about to go down. A cool breeze came from outside the windows and Xia Yao couldn’t help but regret thinking she was young and energetic and leaving her jacket at home. Her legs trembled because of the cold as she explained a few points to Xu Shizhou.
After some time tutoring him, Xia Yao had realized the boy was very smart but a little behind in maths and English.
She suddenly felt a shadow over her head and noticed Xu Shizhou had stood up and was looking at her. She saw something flash on his left ear and she squinted for a second; Xu Shizhou was wearing black stud earrings that looked pretty sassy.
When Xu Shizhou saw she was staring at his face, the corners of his lips rose in pride. He knew that he was good-looking and there would always be a bunch of girls trying to approach him after class, who he would scare off with his oppressive aura.

He took off his thin jacket and Xia Yao felt nervous when she noticed his smile. But because she knew he was not easy to provoke, she focused on helping him with his lessons.
The shadow got closer to her and as she was lost in the math exercise, a black sweater was put on her.
“Huh?” Xia Yao glanced at the clothes that had suddenly appeared on her body then looked at Xu Shizhou. His eyes were dark and the mole under the corner of his eye was striking. Feeling her gaze once more, Xu Shizhou had an indifferent expression and leaned closer to lazily whisper: “Put it on.”
Although his tone was slightly domineering, it was still somewhat gentle, and Xia Yao was startled faced with his kindness. She was a little touched; she had really not expected to see this side of him. She decided that she would no longer secretly call him licking dog number three in her heart either. This way, it meant there was only one dog left.
“Thank you.” Xia Yao was grateful and she put on the clothes. The sweater was for a teenager over 180 cm tall and it was extraordinarily loose on Xia Yao, just like a child who had stolen her parent’s clothes.

Xu Shizhou sat back on his chair and glanced at the girl. For the first time, he thought she was petite and cute, hiding in his clothes like a little cat. It seemed that the type of girl he liked was her.
“Roll the sleeves up, don’t get dirty.” He frowned, erasing his thoughts.
“Okay.” Xia Yao obediently rolled up her sleeves, she didn’t want to make him angry.
“Won’t you do it?” Xu Shizhou frowned again, his eyes sweeping across Xia Yao’s face, “Do you need me to roll them up?”
“Ah?” Xia Yao was confused. She looked at the neat cuffs, wondering what was wrong with them. But because she couldn’t afford to provoke Xu Shizhou, she held back what was in her heart.
The boy sighed helplessly and took her arm directly: “I’m better at rolling up sleeves.”
Xia Yao looked at the sleeves getting messed up and felt a little frustrated. This situation made no sense.

An hour later, after finally sorting out all the important points of the lessons, Xia Yao packed up her bag and planned to go home.
“Shall we eat together? My treat.” Xu Shizhou caught up and followed her.

After finishing all the test papers and correcting their last wrong answers, two girls went out of the classroom and took a deep breath of fresh air. With no one in the corridors, they started chatting loudly.
“The bottom of Class F is really good at pretending. Xia Yao is staying so late every day, it’s hilarious.”
The other girl laughed: “Not to mention her act, she also dares to teach Master Xu!”
“Master Xu rarely comes to school, he doesn’t know how stupid she is. When the exam results come, he will be so angry.”
“It’s so funny, the penultimate and the last students trying to learn together. One dares to teach and one dares to listen.”
The two girls gossiped about Xia Yao’s background and they talked about how good Xia Xi was. When they compared the two of them together, they couldn’t help but laugh again.

Bang!
A loud noise came from behind them and startled them. The girls frowned and turned around to see what happened, and their eyes fell on Xu Shizhou who was standing at the back door of Class F.
The girls were embarrassed; they had walked through Class F and had not noticed people were left there. They lowered their heads in guilt and did not dare to make a sound.
Xu Shizhou strode towards them and the girls instinctively separated to give him way. They looked at their shoes and their legs trembled.
The boy had a calm face but when he passed them, he said in a low voice: “I don’t hit girls.”
The frightened girls breathed a sigh of relief; they were lucky he didn’t hit girls or they would be limping back home.
But as they felt relieved and raised their heads, another girl walked towards them with a smile on her face, which made them feel a little cold.

Xia Yao didn’t expect her reputation to be so low she would bump into someone gossiping about her every single day. She never got angry; she spent her time studying and didn’t want to waste time beating up people. Yet she couldn’t have them forget she had a nasty temper.
She walked briskly to the two girls and put her hands on their shoulders.
“I’m different. I hit girls.” Even her voice sounded like it was smiling and the girls felt that their shoulders had become instantly very painful.
